Self-reported estimates of the accuracy of time synchronization software can be misleadingly incorrect. Here we detail how to independently test the accuracy of time synchronization and show the results. For platforms that rely on highly accurate time, trusting software-only log data without verification is a recipe for disaster - but by using the methods described here, users can avoid common misconceptions and pitfalls.
