FSMLabs’ Frequently Asked Questions

Who is FSMLabs?
FSMLabs invented RTLinux (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RTLinux) and pioneered Dual Kernel Virtualization technology.  RTLinux powers everything from Samsung’s ship building robots to Pratt & Whitney’s jet fighter engines and was sold to Wind River Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:WIND) in February of 2007 (http://www.windriver.com/news/press/pr.html?ID=4261) with FSMLabs retaining exclusive licensing rights for Enterprise applications.  FSMLabs’ hard-real-time deterministic technology allows companies to compete and win in our real-time economy with guaranteed system performance, guaranteed execution and guaranteed bandwidth while also increasing data throughput and reducing latency to undeliverable levels previously unseen by enterprise IT technologist.

What does FSMLabs do?
With over 12 years of experience, FSMLabs provides the lowest latency, the highest performance, the greatest data throughput and we guarantee task execution!  By taking what we have learned from RTLinux, we have developed hard-real-time deterministic applications which allow us to optimize enterprise system software to reduce down time, recover from faults, eliminate clock-drift and provide super low-latency network operation.

What are the advantages of using FSMLabs’ products and services?
Guaranteed task execution and response times
Guaranteed nanosecond level precise timing synchronization
Guaranteed zero-copy hard-real-time networking
Guaranteed network bandwidth
Guaranteed lowest latency, highest performance and data throughput
Guaranteed high-speed transaction processing
Multicore development, virtualization & CPU reservation
We give customers the technology they need to succeed
Fair and value-based business model

What is our goal?
FSMLabs’ goal is to provide services, applications and system software that guarantee task execution and support the most-flexible, lowest-latency and precise timing solutions available in the market today.  We equip our customers with solutions that not only provide a performance boost, but also match the customer’s business model and high performance computing needs.

Who are FSMLabs’ main partners?
AMD, HP, IBM, MySQL, Novell, Red Hat

What are FSMLabs’ main products?
FSMLabs has and optimized operating systems such as Linux, BSD, UNIX and Microsoft Windows by decoupling standard “soft real-time” OS calls from “hard real-time” OS calls utilizing multi-core technology and CPU reservation with the following products:

RTTimeSync for Financial Services eliminates clock-drift by providing nanosecond level clock synchronization
FSMLabs’ RTTimeSync for Financial Services guarantees nanosecond level precise timing synchronization and eliminates clock-drift in clusters, distributed nodes and grid computing environments without loss of time or clock-drift from any time source.  The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), formally known as the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), has listed RTTimeSync as a clock synchronization time-stamp solution which eliminates clock-drift and keeps their brokers and dealers compliant with federal regulations.  RTTimeSync exceeds all of the most stringent time-stamp compliance regulations by keeping computers within ~250 nanoseconds of any time source:
•RTTimeSync exceeds NASD OATS Rules 6950-6957 compliance timing requirements
•RTTimeSync exceeds SEC’s Reg. NMS compliance timing requirements
•RTTimeSync exceeds FSA’s MiFID compliance timing requirements

Real-TimeNet Guarantees Bandwidth, Increases Throughput, Improves Security & Lowers Latency
FSMLabs’ Enterprise RealTime™ Real-TimeNet is an optimized, completely hard-real-time networking stack which enables routing, enterprise fault-tolerance and security.  Zero-copy deterministic, fully controllable networking on Gig/Fast Ethernet with support for Multicast, ICMP, IP, UDP and a deterministic subset of TCP. A standard socket API is provided as well as a low-level (more efficient) driver interface. FSMLabs is rapidly extending coverage of the real-time networking component to other buses and protocols.

Real-Time Management Systems (RTMS) guarantees task execution with the lowest latency at the highest hardware speeds
FSMLabs’ RTMS allows you to configure Linux and BSD operating systems with the lowest latency, highest performance and with the greatest degree of determinism. With FSMLabs’ RTMS, Red Hat, Fedora, SUSE, NetBSD and FreeBSD perform at near hardware speeds for mission-critical and Wall Street-critical systems.  FSMLabs’ RTMS has the lowest latency, highest performance and measures worst-case execution of tasks in nanoseconds and microseconds.

Where to best utilize FSMLabs’ technologies?
• Financial Services
• Simulation
• High Performance Computing (HPC)
• Grid Computing
• Visualization

Where to use FSMLabs’ technologies in the Financial Services industry?
Applications requiring predictable low data latency for:
• Market data delivery assures fair access to pricing information
• Trading / Algorithmic Trading
• Maximize stock-trading profit
• Minimize time from receipt of new market information to re-calculation of risk and trade execution
• Faster trade matching and execution
• e.g., Foreign exchange, bond, MBS, equity, and derivatives trading
Other high volume OLTP Applications
• e.g., ATM transactions, credit card authorizations, Web sites, etc.
